Greets.
A few weeks ago, the boys and I joined the likes of Hollowpoint and Sugarblade up at On the Rocks for a great night of rock. Hollowpoint started off and as a fairly heavy bunch, punched out some loud tracks including an enjoyable rendition of "Creep". I took the stage with Jonathan and Dan for a dozen of my original tracks including 2 of my newest efforts "Shadows" and "Sweet Misery. Sugarblade took over once we were done and gave us a taste of their increasingly popular power-pop rock that's sweeping through Vancouver. The show was quite enjoyable to watch - and it was even more enjoyable to be playing!
I guess I've been needing an outlet for some of my less happy feelings lately. My writing often has sad or angry tones. The latest additions to my song list aren't any different. Shadows is about my Dad's untimely death. It's the story of my thoughts and feelings when I found out what happened. Sweet Misery is one of those "lost the girl" songs that just came out of the ether. It's short, heavy, and full of feeling. It must be based on something from the past, but I just can't lock it down to any one event.
Anyway, back to shows... last night I took the stage to play a series of accoustic tracks with the likes of "This Day Yesterday" and various combinations of the musicians from "Overdose Baby Blue". It was a small, very intimate atmosphere at "The Leisure Loft", but it was quite an enjoyable experience. I quite enjoyed the other performers however I have to admit there was one song of the evening that just didn't seem to be in keeping with the ambiance we had established. Anyway, it was one track and things came back into the groove by the end of it all.
Next up - I need to make some time to locate another venue in the near future. With 6 shows under my belt, it's getting a lot easier and more comfortable up there under the bright lights. For now, here's the latest of the music video series. When I'm Free has been redone to include some LIVE footage from The Blue Grotto... it fills it out quite a bit.
