I just have to start off with "Wow". I didn't realize that Kamloops had a venue with a stage and sound system actually built to make live music sound the way it should. It was a snowy night, we were getting worried no one was going to show up, but then things started to happen and the place began to fill up. By the time we finished out set, there must have been at least 150 people taking it all in.
The set was a blast. When we started out, the first track was a little rough getting going, but after that things came together nicely. We had our first exposure to the unexpected when Jonathan's bass hit the floor and he had to retune. Not wanting to stop the growing energy, I was forced to improvise. I launched into an accoustic rendition of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison which seemed to be heartily enjoyed by crowd.
It was hot under those lights, but after blasting out our heaviest tracks to finish of our set (Red Glaring Eyes, Something Missing, When I'm Free), we left the stage to hard earned cheers. It felt great.
If that wasn't enough, The Mellomaniacs took to the stage and it was a great time. Their mix of electric, hollowbody, accoustic and even keyboard really had the place rocking through both of their sets. We all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their performance. Go Mello's.
The venue does deserve a special thanks. Tony did a great job on an actual proper sound check for both bands, and it paid off. The staff were great and kept things enjoyable for everyone, well, except for that one guy. I don't think he's feeling too good today so I'll leave it at that.
