After discovering that many bands from Vancouver and area are linking together through MySpace.com profiles, I thought it might be a good idea to sign up and see what all the buzz is about. For example, friends bands such as Sugarblade and Viv Savage have myspace accounts that can compliment their actual band websites.
What seems to happen, is that when you sign up for myspace you get a place to upload a few tracks and even some videos, a bio, your tour shedule and other relevant data and link yourself to and from friends and bands you know. This helps people interested in live shows and independant music click through from bands they like to learn more about other similar (or not) bands, sample music, and find shows to get out to.
While I can't say I've got the system figured out yet, I have been seeing a response to my music video's on the site. They seem to have a nice embedded video viewer, counter and ranking system. There are a lot of areas that don't seem to work all that well, but for a free site it's not half bad.
Take a look at the example of embedded video at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=577361149&n=2
