Today I picked up my new modem from Shaw. After a 10 minutes on the phone with a support tech, the modem was up and running. Within an hour, Xtreme-I was configured. Now it's time to see what kind of performance I'm going to get with this new feature.
I've been waiting for it for a long time. Although it's nothing like going from Dial-up to High Speed Internet, it is still significant to see a speed increase of 30-50% when you spend every working day online. In the few short minutes I've had to test this so far, whether or not the Xtreme-I has truly kicked in, I'm already seeing a noticeable change when downloading files from Apache.org, MySQL.com and a list of other sites.
Anyway, for anyone else in Kamloops who craves performance from their ISP... head down to Northills mall. Bring your old Shaw cable modem and power supply and exchange it for the new Motorola cable modem. It's better than waiting for a truck to bring one by!
