A cool site

I'm not one who often uses portal sites, especially since during the beginnings of my internet business days I was battling with some of the local folks to have a better portal site than they had. I must say, however, that the folks at Kamloops City have outdone all the city portal sites I've seen.
It's quite a site. It's like a newspaper that got smashed together with a phone book under high pressure. The opening page is crammed full of info and links, yet it retains a functionality and attractiveness that obviously comes from months of effort.
I was directed there by another local musician, Sean Luciw as an important place to get listed. I found they have a great listing of local artists and do a great job of displaying their profile.
For example, if you visit their homepage today, you'll see a nice little photo of me around the middle of the page, with a snipped from my bio and a link to the rest of the article.
The site appears to use a blending of open source software and custom PHP code. Another testament to the power of PHP, MySQL and Linux servers.
Hopefully they've been able to attract enough business and website visitors to maintain the site for the long haul. As more people get onto the internet and want good local information, sites like this should flourish.
